How should I store my skis or snowboard for the summer?
Taking care of your equipment over the non-skiing months can extend its life, and get you on snow faster when the season hits again. It’s a little different than in-season maintenance, but a little time at the end and beginning of the season can make a big difference.
What do I need to do to store my skis or snowboard for the summer?
Clean Them Thoroughly
Remove dirt, salt, and grime with a damp cloth.
Dry your equipment completely to prevent rust.
Apply a Storage Wax
Coat the bases with a thick layer of wax to protect them from drying out.
Don’t scrape the wax off—leave it on until next season.
Protect the Edges
Ensure edges are clean and dry to prevent rust.
Apply a light layer of oil or rust inhibitor for extra protection.
Check Bindings
Loosen DIN settings on ski bindings to reduce tension on the springs.
For snowboards, ensure bindings are clean and secure.
Store in a Cool, Dry Place
Avoid direct sunlight or areas with high humidity.
Keep skis or snowboards lying flat or upright, away from heavy objects.
Proper off-season storage keeps your gear in great condition, so you’re ready to hit the slopes next winter. TuneHouse can get your equipment ready to hibernate and ready to perform next season. Schedule a hibernation tune.
